The Greatest Asset Available To Mankind
Breaking the circle of setting goals and not being able to actualize them
Hello 👋
It's November, finally. Couldn't wait for October to be over with. As much as I'm excited for October, I'm glad it's over. Now let's focus on making the last two months the best months.
Have you noticed this too at the start of a new month, that motivation is usually high? Most people convince themselves that this is the month when they do better. That this is the month they change. This new month is the time they are going to do more and be more.
Somehow that energy is sustained for the first few days and boom we return to the default setting and keep doing the very thing we said we were never going to do. Is it that we don’t mean what we said at the start of the month?
Far from that. We meant every word but the thing is we get distracted along the way. With every new month, there is this guilt we feel that makes us think we haven’t achieved anything in the past month and we console ourselves by promising to get better this month but on and on that circle goes.
This is the same feeling behind New Year's resolutions. One minute you are clear on what you want to achieve in the New Year. In fact, you go as far as outlining them down in a specific, measurable, and realistic way.
However, along the line, we fall short. Why do we do this? In all honesty, no one knows for sure.
One thing is certain, our mind is at play in this game. The earlier you realize it’s a mind thing the better for you. Rather than get spawned by the moment to set goals, focus on building a mind-frame that enables you to get things done. The truth is your mind has no clue what a new month is.
It remains the same every day. It only amplifies what you feed to it. If you begin a circle of making decisions every new month, your mind gets accustomed to that pattern.
With that in view, it, therefore, means you can make every new day feel like the start of a New Year or new month.
The mind is the starting point of any achievement. A man who can successfully conquer his mind can take on anything that comes his way.
Little wonder, why it is believed that a battle is first won or lost in the mind. The outcome of any contest is usually determined by the belief the contenders have as they step into the ring.
Making the most of this month would be a reflection of your mindset towards achieving those goals
Focus is a very important subject that you must work into your life if you will make it in life and destiny. You could be making a simple mistake that’s subverting the success of your business, life, or career.
That’s why today, your undivided attention is needed so that I can make sure you’re aware of the pitfalls and following successful principles for goal setting.
Your focus determines your reality.
The single biggest mistake that a typical person makes is that they fail to give their undivided attention to the tasks at hand. Most people are guilty of expending partial energy in multiple places, and indeed there are people who do this and who’ve been successful, at least to a certain extent.
The problem is that following success principles is all about optimizing your approach to achieve peak performance.
Here are five reasons why you lose motivation after a couple of days into a new month
Procrastination
Distraction
Poor decision-making
Sheer laziness
Lack of discipline
The list could be more than these but in my experience, I have discovered procrastination is top of the list. If only you will eliminate these threats, you will be on your way to smashing your goals for the month.
Here are five ways to stay motivated all month.
Wake up earlier: One hour earlier will go a long way in keeping you mentally alert for the day. You should practice it.
Create a morning routine: These are a set of activities you do that help you get a head start for each day. You could include, meditation, positive affirmation, writing at least 500words, exercise, listening to podcast/Videos.
Have a To-Do list: If having a list helps keep you in check, then it’s something you should carry around. However, the key point is having a list of what you are to do each day.
Set limits for social media: This is one trick I have begun to use lately. If you use an iOS device, this is available in your device setting. If on android you can do this manually by setting alarms when you turn on your apps and log off immediately the alarm rings. This will help eliminate distractions.
Focus on your daily goals till they are done. Don’t give room for distractions. It is the steps you take each day that cumulate in your overall achievement. This month won’t be different from the last if you do things the same way you did them last month.
As you retire for the day, remember to evaluate your mindset.
You do this by answering these questions.
What worked today?
What didn’t work well?
What could I have done better?
What should I stop doing?
What do I need to know more about?
Anyone who invests in their mind will go farther than his peers.
Your mind is a potent weapon. Use it wisely
