Sometimes, the year passes so quickly that it can be overwhelming. One moment, you’re excited about a new beginning, and the next, it feels like the end is just around the corner. Whether fast or slow, one thing is clear: no one likes to feel stuck or caught off guard by life’s demands.
Can I be honest with you for a moment?
A couple of years ago, I was stuck right at the start of the year. I had resigned at the end of the previous year, holding onto nothing but a dream of how I wanted my life to be. The weight of that decision didn’t hit me until we crossed into the new year, and I realized I wasn’t just broke; I was also unemployed.
Imagine starting a new year with less than N10,000 to your name. With no prospect of a job anytime soon. That was the definition of being stuck.
A quick backstory on how I got here. I had achieved things others celebrated: a broadcasting job, a steady income, and a respectable reputation. But internally? I knew I was operating at maybe 40% of my actual potential.
I was someone who set ambitious goals in January... and gave up on them by March. I knew exactly what to do... but still didn’t follow through. Started projects with enthusiasm... then lost steam after two weeks. Usually looked successful on the outside... while feeling like a fraud inside.
Sound familiar?
Here’s what I discovered: My problem wasn’t lack of opportunity, talent, or even effort. My problem was my operating system. I knew I had to change for the better. To do this, I needed to be honest with myself, which meant resigning and focusing on the most crucial part of my being: my mind.
Your Mind is Like a Smartphone
Think about it this way:
You can have the most expensive smartphone money can buy, the latest model, an incredible camera, a powerful processor, and a beautiful display. But if it’s running on a buggy, outdated operating system?
It will lag. It will crash. It will underperform. No matter how much potential that phone has, the faulty OS limits everything.
Your mind works the same way.
You can have the best education, great opportunities, a supportive network, clear goals, and a strong work ethic. But if your mental operating system has “bugs” like limiting beliefs, imposter syndrome, fear of failure, scarcity mindset, or even victim mentality,
... you’ll sabotage every opportunity before you even get started.
For me, the breakthrough came when I stopped treating success as something I had to earn through hustle alone and started seeing it as something that flows from who I’m becoming.
I discovered that the Bible has been saying this all along:
“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” — Proverbs 23:7
Not “as a man works,” or “as a man hustles,” or even “as a man prays.”
As he THINKS.
Your thoughts shape your beliefs. Your beliefs shape your actions.
Your actions shape your results. Change your thinking, change your life.
Sounds simple, right? But here’s the challenge, we don’t know what we don’t know. Most of us operate on mental programming we didn’t consciously choose, often installed by our upbringing, past failures, societal expectations, comparison culture, economic struggles, or even disappointing experiences.
And because we can’t see our own blind spots, we keep getting the same results while wondering, “Why am I stuck here?”
The breakthrough you need will likely come when you stop trying to hustle harder and start upgrading your mental operating system.
Stop trying to change your device, like the new year and ‘new me’ vibe we always hide behind, and start focusing on your thoughts, what runs through your mind, and your worldview.
Nothing will change on the outside if you don’t make drastic changes on the inside. This can seem overwhelming at times. I understand, and I’ve been there, which is why I’m excited to invite you to join my first masterclass, which I’ll be organizing in a long while.
